Do a full check the day before. Repeat the short device and connection check 15–30 minutes before the interview.
1. Test the complete setup
Check the camera, microphone, speakers, browser, and connection together. A browser check catches common permission and device problems before you open the meeting link.
Run the two-minute setup check
Finish all five readiness checks and copy or share the result.
Start guided check2. Open the real meeting app
- Install or update the required app if the invitation calls for one.
- Select the same camera, microphone, and speaker you just tested.
- Use the app’s own preview or test call when available.
- Confirm the meeting link and sign-in method.
3. Prepare sound and video
- Place the camera near eye level and clean the lens.
- Put a light in front of you rather than behind you.
- Use a quiet room and silence notifications.
- Keep headphones nearby in case speakers cause echo.
- Check that your name is displayed correctly in the meeting app.
4. Protect the connection and power
- Plug the computer into power or fully charge it.
- Pause downloads, cloud backups, streams, and game updates.
- Move closer to the Wi-Fi router or use Ethernet if available.
- Keep a charged phone and hotspot or dial-in number as a backup.
5. Join early without creating noise
Open the meeting about 10 minutes early so there is time to handle an update or permission prompt. Join muted, check the preview, and unmute only when the conversation starts.
Keep the invitation accessible. Save the recruiter or organizer’s contact details so you can report a delay if the platform itself has a problem.
